In 1680 the first recorded Witches and Wizards landed in Virgina, leaving behind the oppression of Europe. Fearful that they might find similar muggle-oppression in the slowly growing colonies, some of them headed into the west, into territory muggles were ill-equipped to venture into.
Fast forward to 1792, Greyson Fletcher, a self taught wizard and explorer sets out from his home in Missouri to find extremely valuable gold and other precious metals. The journey takes him across thousands of miles of difficult terrain. It was 1794 by the time he reached Colorado, were he heard rumor that Griffins nested. Griffins as we all well and know have a taste for gold, using it often to decorate their nests and attract mates.
Greyson, who had been scoping out the area for months didn't stumble upon his first griffin until he nearly tripped right over it. If not for the quick action of the Wolfsbane Werewolf Clan, Greyson would have surely been killed long before reaching his goal. Eternally grateful, Greyson promised that he'd repay their favor and bring the cave dwelling wolves honor. Saying goodbye to his new allies, Fletcher set forth into the deep woods, sure that he'd find the mountains vein of gold towards there.
It had only been two days since he left the Wolfsbane clan when Greyson found the river that snake around the mountain and into the valley. As he followed the river an interesting variety of water plants caught his eye. Jumping in the river to take samples, Greyson found himself tangled in an uncommon variety of aquatic Devil's Snare. Just as all hope was lost, one of the merfolk that inhabited the deep river cut him free. Brookgill, as she was called surfaced and taught him how to identify the various dangerous plants that grew along the river side before letting him continue his journey.
Once more, Greyson set forth following the river until he reached a section of the mountain he felt would yield the precious metals he had been hunting for so long. With a wave of his wand Fletcher carved a path into the mountain. After several long days Greyson found the gold he had been searching for so long!
By 1800 the town of Pyrite had been established and a great deal of wizard miners and their families had converged on the area. Fletcher, whose parents had talked eagerly of the school Hogwarts that they had attended in their youth had dreams of building a similar school for the children of the area. As the miners moved through the mountain, they slowly hollowed it out, converting the empty inside into a massive haven for young wizards and witches funded completely by Fletcher himself.
Just as the school neared completion a Coven of vampires moved into the area, this of course caused great distress amongst the peoples of the town. Fletcher, being the foolhardy soul he was sought out these vampires. Quickly captivated by a young female of the Denfang coven he was lured to their den. Fletcher, thanks to quick thinking and a couple of engaging stories not only convinced the vampires to let him go, but signed a treaty with them agreeing to keep off any student that might come to the school.
Soon the construction for the school was complete, and just before Fletcher opened it he was approached by a Centaur from within the forest. Tensions between the two groups had been high for the last few months, but a single Centaur by the name of Swifthoof approached Fletcher. He proposed an idea, one day the Centaurs would need his help defeating a great evil, if Fletcher promised to aid their clan then they would donate a portion of their forest as part of the grounds of the Academy. Fletcher, happily accepted this.
Finally, in 1805 Greyson Fletcher finally unveiled the great Academy he spent year working on. With this he introduced the wide stables, filled with creatures he found on his adventures, and with them he introduced the four Houses or sections of his new school, each named after an instilled with the traits and values of the people named with them
Brookgill, home to the friendly and generous, but vain and secretive.
Wolfsbane, the aggressive and arrogant, but fiercely loyal and enthusiastic.
Swifthoof, ambitious and closed-minded, but altruistic and honorable.
Denfang, aloof and cynical, but wise and responsible.
With these traits, The North American Academy of Magic was born. Through the years its had its ups and downs, especially with the introduction of Native American students, and more recently the Wizarding War, but its always pulled through.
